A little background:
MXTX Diaspora May has been running since 2021. The 2021 iteration was specific to MDZS; in 2022, it expanded to include all of MXTX's works. The focus of this event is to elevate international Chinese diaspora voices through the creation of MXTX-related fanworks and allow Chinese diaspora creators to come together to share the diverse aspects of Chinese culture and connect over lived experiences.
Support of this event will go a long way towards creating a more inclusive and open culture in online communities, especially for creators who rarely get their voices heard in the English-speaking side of fandom. The AO3 collections are linked below, as well as a couple of other links that feature diaspora voices.

More works from diaspora creators:
- Stories that spoke to us: MDZS & the Chinese diaspora experience: a rec list of fanworks by Chinese diaspora creators which rang true to diaspora experiences according to other Chinese diaspora fans
- Danmei Diaspora Creatives: an ever-growing collection of danmei fanworks (including MDZS) by Chinese diaspora creators

And finally, a self plug for my own 2023 event fic, which is suffused with diaspora experience as well as Lan Zhan's raging lust for Wei Ying.

Wei Ying stares down at the photograph with a wistful smile. “These are my parents. I, ah—they passed away a long time ago. Well, you know, everyone knows. Jiang-shushu and Yu-ayi adopted me when I was little. Anyway, my parents were huge fans of Jin Yong, and they’re about my age in this photo. I’m going to the Fan Expo in a couple months and I thought I’d try to dress up as Yang Guo from the Condor Heroes series just like my dad. Is that enough time to make a costume?”
Lan Zhan has no idea how to make a hanfu. But he knows what it’s like to want a piece of your parents, and hope is shining so brightly from Wei Ying’s eyes that he cannot bring himself to utter a refusal.
“I can do it,” he says.
In the summer heat of the American South, two college students working in Chinatown fall in love over the making of a hanfu.
