Episode 1, Episode 2
The Yunmeng trio decide to rest in Caiyi for a few days, only to find there's no room at the inn. Some other young lord has reserved every last one of them.
An out-of-focus (sorry) Mianmian makes her first appearance, looking after Young Master Jin's room. First mention of this illustrious personage.

Neither of the Jiang siblings is delighted.

Wei Wuxian charms Mianmian into letting them have rooms.

Cultivator standoff in the corridor.

Just let me get the hell out of here already.

Ah, the hills are alive to the sound of silence.
Flash brief appearance of Lan Wangi, and as Wei Wuxian returns to the campsite, everyone is gone.
So the logical thing is for him to break into Cloud Recesses. (I'm always suprised that this doesn't set off an alarm somewhere. On the other hand, mabye it did, and Lan Wangji was all, 'Oh, that's just that loud boy, I'll deal with him.')

Wei Wuxian, Philosopher

Nooooo! Not the booze!

So close...

Once unmuted, Wei Wuxian complains at length, right from the start when Lan Wangji woudln't let them into Cloud Recesses. Lan Xichen responds that it's his own fault his wine jar got broken and that it was Lan Wangji who got the Chiang sibs admitted after all.
Perhaps for fear of appreaning needlessly human, Lan Wangji attempts to interrupt this process.

Too late.

Now that he's established rapport with Lan Xichen, Wei Wuxian gets nosy about the injured guy, who seems dead now but wasn't dead earlier.
But first we flash over to Wen Clan HQ. We meet Wen Qing, getting her mission from Chief Cultivator Wen Ruohan. Wen Chao, the second young master, will take her to Cloud Recesses where she's supposed to look for a piece of Yin Metal somewhere around there.

She asks to be allowed to bring her brother Wen Ning along, because he's of bad health. People with at better memory of names than me might remember the Wen Ning encountered at Dafan Mountain and wonder what on earth happened.
Back in Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian has muscled in on the investigation. I find it qutie amazing that the senior Lan guys let him, particularly Uncle Qiren.

An unspecified time later the same night, Lan Wangji asks his brother how concerned they should be about the ghost puppet. we learn that cultivators havebeen disappearing, and someone seems to be pracitincg evil sorcdery. If it's an ambitious person, the y can expect more trouble. All they can do for now is find out more.
Lan Xichen also points out how responsible Lan Wangji is and that he should maybe make some friends his own age.

Lan Wangji's look!
Meantime, Wen Ruohan is having a civilized discussion with psychopath-in-trade Xue Yang.

(Apologies to any Xue Yang fans. I find psychopaths tedious in the extreme. Feel free to make up for my shortcomings in the comments.)
We find out that the Wens have been abducting cultivators and turning them into ghost puppets in order ot refine the Yin metal, and also that they are still looking for various pieces of that metal. They found one at Dafan mountain, and suspect two more are in Cloud Recesses and Lotus Cove. One is unaccounted for.

End of episode.
It has been suggested to me that I could have a 'secondary characater of the week every time, and I kind of like the idea. So this week I nominate:

Nominated for his heroic and selfless effort at getting Lan Zhan and Wei Ying together this early in the show. Any rivals?

Wei Wuxian charms Mianmian into letting them have rooms.

Hush, don't tell the boss. An early display of that rebel spirit!
Jiang Cheng complains about that. But it's okay, the rooms don't last, because Jin Zixuan arrives with an unexpectedly huge retinue. He starts off as he means to go on by criticizing everything about the inn.

Right down to the tea.
Jin Zixuan wants to inspect - and presumabl find fault with - the rooms next, and just happens to run into the Yunmeng trio.

Cultivator standoff in the corridor.

BURRRRN
Meaningful glances are exchanged between Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli.

Just let me get the hell out of here already.
Jin Zixuan gets his nickname.

Wei Wuxian regrets missing out on the special booze. Jiang Cheng tells him off for not having his mind on more important things. But let nobody say that Wei Wuxian can't multitask.

The trio move on towards Cloud Recesses, where another obstacle presents itself.

The Lan Clan has strict rules and the guys at the gate are not about to let the Yunmeng clan in without their invitation. The best they manage to do is persuade one of them to go ask the clan leader to come see them after his shift ends... sometime after sunset. Wei Wuxian protests but Chiang Yanli is worried about etiquette and urges him to give in. They're about to withdraw when...

Hello, flashback!
They identify him as Lan Wangji, Second Master Lan, and correctly surmise that he could let them into Cloud Recesses.
But first, a wounded guy with strange markings is carried past them through the gate. WWX suspects sorcery, at which Lan Wangji pays him attention for the first time.

Not that it helps.

WWX tries to charm him.

Lan Wangji: Do I look like my name is Mianmian?

Why are you making me repeat myself?
When Wei Wuxian keeps insisting, Lan Wangji uses the Lan Clan superpower on him.

Better than flying!

Ah, the hills are alive to the sound of silence.
So they retreat, the Jiang sibs and their retinue make a campfire, and Wei Wuxian heads back for the invitations. Of coures Jiang Cheng expects him to get into trouble. At least Jiang Yanli has faith in him.

Wei Wuxian, Philosopher
He climbs over a wall and is just nicely settled on a rooftop ready for a swig of Emperor's Smile, when...

Uh-oh.

Hello, my friend, nice to see you, I know you love me really, am I not cute? I'm incredibly cute!

Also you are very uncute and I will maintain so to my dying day.
Wei Wuxian generously offers him a share of the booze.

The judginess is strong with this one.
His further arguments endear him to Lan Wangji even less.

Here, let me, uh... sheathe that... sword... for you. No homo!
Pretty fighting scenes!

Wei Wuxian hasn't even drawn his sword.

The unthinkable happens.

Nooooo! Not the booze!
Wei Wuxian really does have almost superhuman skills.

So close...
And now he's no longer Second Young Lord Lan, and never will be again (except when WWX is being defensive.)

Wei Wuxian is confronted with the wall of rules...

...but takes away entirely the wrong message.

Behold my slender throat. Still not interested?
No, Lan Zhan's had enough again.

Not fair! I want my drink!
Meanwhile Uncle Qiren and Lan Xichen are discussing the injured clan member, and Uncle comes to the same conclusion as Wei Wuxian.

When Lan Wangji presents his apprehended evildoer, Lan Xichen finds illogically that Wei Wuxian can't be blamed for not knowing the rules, but must nevertheless be punished for breaking them. He leaves the nature of the punishment to Lan Wangji.

In my library. With me sitting near you.

Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know..

Honey, you ARE boredom.

Ominous BGM...
