I totally agree. This is in the drama too and I always liked it. It's just... realistic. Especially since those cultivators are the kids of the sunshot generation, where really, so many people died.

My impression has always been that Wei Wuxian's song reaches him where he is languishing in a Jin dungeon (and has been since they gave themselves up) so he just up and breaks out of there, chains still on and nails still in his head.
